Adult Piano Lessons - Alexandria, VA and Online
Whether you are a complete beginner, returning to piano after many years away, or looking to take your playing to a higher level, lessons are tailored to your individual goals and interests.
Some adults want to learn classical piano, while others are interested in jazz, pop, improvisation, music theory, reading music, or playing by ear. Whatever your interests may be, I draw from years of professional performing and teaching experience to help you develop the skills needed to play the music you enjoy.
For beginners, I focus on building a strong foundation while moving at a pace that feels comfortable and manageable. I believe that any challenge, whether it involves reading music, rhythm, technique, or coordination, can be broken down into smaller, achievable steps. My goal is for students to leave each lesson with a clear sense of progress and confidence about what to work on next.
For more experienced students, lessons can explore topics such as technique, interpretation, improvisation, advanced rhythm, harmony, ear training, and music theory. I believe that consistent attention to small details leads to significant long-term growth, and I strive to help students recognize and enjoy that process every step of the way.
New to Online Lessons?
Planning to take lessons in person? Feel free to skip this section. The information below is for students interested in online lessons.
Many adults are interested in online piano lessons but feel uncertain about the technology involved. If that sounds familiar, don't worry.
My online setup is designed to be simple and easy to use. Most students only need a computer, tablet, or smartphone with an internet connection. Before your first lesson, I can help you get everything set up and answer any questions you may have.
I use multiple camera angles when needed so that students can clearly see demonstrations at the piano, and I can easily view your hands and technique as well. Sheet music, exercises, and lesson materials can be shared digitally, making the learning process convenient and organized.
Many students are surprised by how natural online lessons feel once they get started. In fact, online lessons offer several advantages, including greater scheduling flexibility, no commute time, and the ability to learn comfortably from home.
If you're unsure whether online lessons are right for you, I'm happy to discuss your setup and help determine what will work best for your situation.
